When I was six months pregnant, a family member told me that I would never be able to finish my book. (I was in the process of writing Six O’clock.) I got so upset that I cried. Mostly, because I knew how hard it would be to find time to write with a newborn. But [...] I’m almost there guys. I’m about 100 pages away from finishing this novel. Let me rephrase that…I’m 100 pages away from finishing my second draft of this novel. I don’t know if I should laugh or cry, but I feel like crying. Let me explain. Imagine you’re running a marathon. You hear the whistle [...] If you follow me on Facebook, (And why not? I’m wicked funny), then you know that I finally typed THE END to the novel I’m working on. Details about what the novel is about is coming soon, but right now, I’m just enjoying the fact that I’ve done it again. That I finished another book. [...] As a hairstylist, your day changes constantly. It’s full of surprises. A typical day could go something like this: 9:00 a.m. My first client called saying she’s running ten minutes late. I chat with co-workers and play with my hair. More hairspray here, straighten side part, turn head side to side—done! Fabulous. 9:15 a.m. [...] So I mentioned to you last week, that my mother told me that I’m not all that. I have a loving mother and the comment sounds harsh, so let me give you some background information. I was sitting at the kitchen table complaining about my lot in life. You know the whole ungrateful spiel [...] Breakthrough! (I’m at 58,536 words so no, the breakthrough isn’t in my word count. But you build a novel one word at a time, no matter how painful and slow the words are.) I’m at the point in my WIP where I learned something new about my main character. This is what I love about [...] I can’t discuss word count. I have a legitimate reason why I couldn’t write–my husband was setting up my computer. That IS a reason! It’s not? Pretty good excuse though, right? As I write this, I am sitting behind a 23 inch monitor on my brand new computer. I’m not bragging. Really, I’m not. I’ve [...] Reached 49,266 words. Don’t know what spurned writing, but Church’s chicken probably didn’t hurt.
Never in a million years would I think that Virginia Deberry and Donna Grant would be stopping by my blog this Friday. Lately, I’ve added author interviews to some of my blog topics and I enjoy doing them. [...] I did write today. But the word count was so pitiful I couldn’t share it. Just trust me, it was bad. Bribe: anything given or promised to induce a person to do something against his or her wishes. I bet if I my desk was made of Butterfinger’s, I would be sitting there all [...] 47,819 words. I know. I know that number hasn’t changed since my last post. Things are getting…rough. That word that I hate is starting to creep up my spine, telling me that I can’t finish, that I won’t finish, that I shouldn’t finish. Doubt. I am beginning to doubt myself… I’m losing it. I [...] |
I’m a Women’s Fiction writer with two novels under my belt, Six O’clock and Unbeweaveable. Curl Up and Write is where I fuse my two loves: hair and writing. You’d be surprised at the similarities! When I’m not writing, I’m watching How’s It Made with my Hubby (and pretending I’m not interested in learning how a tennis racket is built), or I’m reading to my daughter. I also dabble in gardening, love to cook, and watch way too much HGTV.  |
