I need to start talking about my writing more to my loved ones. [...]

I had family over this past weekend and they were shocked to learn that I wrote a book. I was in the process of telling them about my second book, (Unbeweavable, coming to a store near you in the summer of 2010. Yes, I had to get that in there.) and they screamed, “You wrote a book! When did this happen?”

I never told them that I wasn’t just a stay-at-home mom now, I’m a writer too. They were really proud of me, and they all mentioned that they would run to Amazon to purchase a copy.

When I was a hairstylist, everyone knew what I did for a living. If you couldn’t tell that I did hair by my ever-changing weave, then you would definitely hear about me talking about a new trend I was trying.

What happened to that woman?

When I talk about my writing I feel like I’m bragging, like I’m asking all eyes to be on me. I don’t know when it will sink in this thick head of mine that talking about my love of writing is exactly the same thing as talking about my love affair with hair. It’s not saying that I’m better than anybody, or that I think I’m all that because I write. I am simply talking about my day at the job.

Obviously I have a lot of work to do between now and next year when Unbeweavable comes out. First thing on my list? Tell my family what I’m doing every step of the way!
