I don’t think this has anything to do with the fact that I write, for as long as I could remember I always had to have the right pen.

My pen of choice? The Pilot G-2. I choose the 0.7mm point—not too fine, not too bold. In black ink. I love the way the ink flows, for some reason I feel like the flow of the ink helps my thoughts flow easier. It seems crazy to care about a pen so much considering I don’t write my novels in longhand anymore. I type them straight to my laptop. But I do take an obscene amount of notes, and that’s where my favorite pen comes in handy.

Even when I was a hairstylist, I had to have a certain pen to write my appointments—back then colored ink was my thing.

And I don’t think I’m alone on this. I read Tess Gerritsen’s blog frequently and she had a video where she showed her office. Imagine my surprise when I saw her writing in a notebook, using my pen—the Pilot G-2. How do I know that this wasn’t just happenstance, that she used any old pen that was laying around? I don’t really. But I do know that us writers stick with what works. That goes for pens, notebooks, computers…You get the point. I think she—like me—has to write with a certain pen. Once you find something you like, you stick with it. And for us that happens to be our Pilots.
