It seems that there are a lot of ways to spell Unbeweaveable. It’s a spin on the word unbelievable—my main character Mariah is addicted to her weave and discovers an unbelievable family secret—hence the title, Unbeweaveable. I’ve always spelled Unbeweaveable adding the –e before the –able. But unbelievable doesn’t have the –e, so many have [...]
I worked on my novel while on vacation, and made huge discoveries about my characters. It’s great to be in the middle of revisions and your character reveals something about themselves. When Unbeweaveable is out then back to full time revision mode!
Notice anything different? Of course you do, my website has been updated! [...]
On Chapter Four of revisions. Just Chapter Four? Well, I had to rewrite two chapters so I think that’s pretty good, doggone it! Okay, sorry for the tone, I plan to make up for it tomorrow. Butt in chair+laptop and typing=writing done. Oh, and I haven’t forgotten about your Unbeweavable stories! Thanks to all of [...]
When I think about all the marketing I’ve done for Unbeweavable (pre-order now!), I get dizzy. So much goes on behind the scenes that you guys don’t even get to see—until the book comes out. And the sad thing is, it’s hard to say what works and what doesn’t. As a hairstylist, my hair is [...]
Guess what’s the one thing that Ciara can’t live without?
Her hair extensions!
When Essence.com asked her what’s the one thing she couldn’t live without she said:
This may be very blunt, but I can’t live without my hair extensions! It’s the truth! I don’t want to wear my (real) hair all the time [...]
Up to 44,451 words on the work in progress. Feeling excited, like I’m in the zone.
I like prologues. I like knowing what situation I plan on reading later in the book. In Unbeweavable, I start the book with a prologue. In my WIP, I start with a prologue. The unpublished book that’s collecting [...]
Friend to the blog Lori Johnson gave me the idea to start interviewing women about their weave experiences. (Or rather, I told her I was going to copy her idea when she interviewed women who chose to wear their hair natural on her blog. Thanks Lori!)
So, for the next several months keep checking here [...]
Or at least Essence best-selling author, Victoria Christopher Murray, thinks so. Check out the blurb she gave me for Unbeweavable.
Katrina Spencer has a hit! Beautifully written, Unbeweavable was impossible to put down. Light and funny, yet poignant and touching–a very creative novel. Mrs.. Spencer is an author to look out for.”
I’m bursting with [...]
I’ve talked about how much I’ve wanted to rock bangs. I wore bangs for most of the month of December. Here’s a picture of me, before the hubby and I went out to dinner:
(It looks like I’m wearing a blanket for a shirt, but it’s actually a really cool dress. I’m tall and [...]
It’s that time again. Yep, the asking (begging) of fellow authors to read Unbeweavable and give it a blurb. This is a busy time of year for a lot of people, and the fact that people have taken the time out of their busy schedules to read my novel sends me to the moon.
It’s [...]

I’m a Women’s Fiction writer with two novels under my belt, Six O’clock and Unbeweaveable. Curl Up and Write is where I fuse my two loves: hair and writing. You’d be surprised at the similarities! When I’m not writing, I’m watching How’s It Made with my Hubby (and pretending I’m not interested in learning how a tennis racket is built), or I’m reading to my daughter. I also dabble in gardening, love to cook, and watch way too much HGTV.
